The WGLA, founded on 12 February 2019 and registered as a charity (Number 1198341), was created by the late Michael Harry, a Windrush veteran. It emphasises the diverse legacy of the Windrush Generation and their descendants, underscoring its commitment to celebrating and educating about their contributions. The association relies on donations to support its activities and offers specific contact information and new opening hours for those interested in engaging with their work or requiring appointments.

The Windrush Generation Legacy Association Charity (WGLA) aims to empower both the elders in our community and the younger generations.

Through our dedicated community outreach programs, WGLA effectively tackles the issues of loneliness among elders and supports the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

The sense of camaraderie and connection that our events foster is invaluable in combating loneliness and creating a supportive community.

WGLA also organises outings and trips, allowing the community to explore new places. These excursions provide a change of scenery and act as a source of joy and rejuvenation for the participants.

By organising these activities, WGLA ensures that our members stay socially active and maintain a sense of adventure and purpose.

These visits offer schools and community groups the opportunity to learn about the heritage and legacy of the Windrush Generation through interactive sessions offered by the WGLA team.

WGLA’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the Windrush Generation is commendable.

Through our cross-generational legacy-sharing projects, we bridge the gap between different age groups and foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the contributions of the Windrush Generation.

These projects educate and raise awareness and instill a sense of pride and belonging in both the elders and the younger generations.
